Privacy Policy — HyreKit Companion
HyreKit Companion is an Android app for staff of shops that run the HyreKit rental app on Shopify. It scans an item's code to hand a rental out and to take it back.
The short version. The app collects no personal data about you. It talks to one server only: the HyreKit shop you paired it with. Nothing is sent to us, to advertisers, or to anyone else.
What the app sends, and where
When you scan an item or confirm a hand-out or return, the app sends that action to the HyreKit shop you paired the device with. That shop belongs to your employer, not to us. The app has no other destination.
The data sent is limited to what the action needs: the scanned code, the booking you confirmed, engine hours if you entered them, and a condition note if you wrote one.
What the app stores on your phone
- A device key for the shop you paired with, kept in Android's encrypted storage. It is not readable by other apps.
- A queue of unsent confirmations, if you worked without a signal. Once they sync, they are removed.
Removing the app, or tapping Disconnect this device, deletes both.
Camera
The camera is used to read a barcode or QR code. No photo or video is saved, and none leaves the phone. The app reads the code and discards the frame.
Data we collect about you
None. There is no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting, and no account with us. We do not know that you installed the app.
Customer information you may see
When handing out a rental, the app shows the customer's name and email from the booking, so you hand the right machine to the right person. This information comes from your employer's own shop, is shown on screen, and is not stored on the phone or forwarded anywhere.
Your employer's role
The shop owner decides whether Companion may connect at all, issues each device its own key, and can revoke that key at any time. Questions about how your employer uses rental records belong to them, not to us.
Permissions
- Camera — to read codes. No images are kept.
- Internet — to reach the HyreKit shop you paired with.
- Network state — to notice when the signal returns, so queued confirmations can sync.
Children
The app is a work tool for rental businesses and is not directed at children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date above changes with it, and a material change will be noted in the app's release notes on Google Play.
